88-Year-Old Scrap Collector Loses His Life After Being Hit by Pickup Truck
An 88-year-old scrap collector lost his life after being hit by a red pickup truck along the National Highway in Barangay Recreo, Pontevedra.
On Monday night, March 2, 2026, an elderly man dies after being hit by a pickup truck in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.
According to Police Executive Master Sergeant George Cadayday, chief traffic investigator of the Pontevedra Police, the victim was driving his tricycle when the accident happened at around 8 p.m.
Reports said the red Toyota Hilux pickup was traveling from south to north when it struck the tricycle. The pickup was driven by a 38-year-old businessman from Barangay Talubangi in Kabankalan.
Due to the strong impact, the elderly man suffered serious injuries and was declared dead. Authorities decided not to release the names of both the victim and the driver as part of standard procedure.
After the incident, the driver voluntarily surrendered to the authorities. He is now under the custody of the Pontevedra Municipal Police Station while the investigation continues.
As of this writing, discussions are ongoing between the family of the victim and the driver of the pickup truck. Police are still looking into the details of the accident to determine the cause of the collision.
