PAGASA Raises Signal No. 2 in Several Areas as Tropical Storm Basyang Nears Mindanao 

PAGASA WEATHER UPDATE – The state weather bureau reported that signal no. 2 was raised in 8 areas due to Tropical Storm Basyang.  

On Thursday (February 5, 2026), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Tropical Storm Basyang will continue to affect the country’s weather conditions. 

PAGASA said the storm has slightly picked up speed and is now posing a greater risk to affected areas.

As of 7 a.m., Tropical Storm Basyang was located around 385 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. It is packing winds of up to 65 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching 80 kilometers per hour, and is moving west-southwest at about 20 kilometers per hour. 

Signal No. 2 has been raised over areas in the following areas: 

  • Surigao del Norte 
  • Surigao del Sur 
  • Parts of Davao Oriental 
  • Agusan del Norte and Sur 
  • Camiguin 
  • Misamis Oriental 
  • Northern Bukidnon 
  • Iligan City 
  • Northeastern Misamis Occidental 

Meanwhile, Signal No. 1 has been placed over many parts of the Visayas, Mindanao, and some areas of Palawan. These locations may experience strong winds and moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming days. 

PAGASA noted that Basyang may slightly intensify before making landfall over Surigao del Sur between late Thursday and early Friday (February 6). The storm is expected to remain a tropical storm as it crosses northeastern Mindanao and southern Negros, before weakening into a tropical depression near northern Palawan by Saturday.

By Sunday (February 8), it may turn into a low-pressure area over the West Philippine Sea. 

Heavy to intense rains are expected in Mindanao and the Visayas on Thursday and Friday, with southern Luzon likely to be affected by Saturday (February 7). 

The weather agency has advised the residents in low-lying and mountainous areas for possible flooding and landslides.
