Carla Abellana talked about the slab cake on her wedding day
The wedding cake of Kapuso actress Carla Abellana became a viral topic on social media and garnered different reactions.
Carla got married to her non-showbiz partner, Dr. Reginald Santos, on December 27, 2025. Fans were gushing over her beautiful face and her simple but elegant wedding gown.
Many people also talked about her wedding cake. It was because it was not the usual wedding cakes with several tiers. The couple opted to have a slab cake, which garnered comments from netizens that it looked like a coffin, especially since it had flower decorations surrounding it.

One of the viral comments came from actor Janus del Prado, who said, “sisiw na lang kulang.” This received a reply from Carla Abellana. The actress explained that they decided to have a cake that all parts were edible.
Janus was bashed for his comment, and he said that his account was mass-reported, and because of this, he said that Carla was indeed “maldita.” The cake supplier spoke about the issue, stressing that slab cakes have been a trend in weddings in the West for quite some time now.
In a recent interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Carla spoke about having a slab cake for their wedding. Aside from this, the newlywed couple also had a round strawberry cheesecake.
“The slab cake, the parang elongated slab na isang layer lang po siya which is actually uso po kung tutuusin. If you look at trends, 2026 trends or what, even in the US, ‘yan po ‘yung usong design,” the Kapuso actress shared.
Then, the King of Talk shared that he saw several weddings in the States with that kind of slab cake.

Carla said that aside from the trendiness of the slab cake, what she liked most about this was that it was fully edible, and they could serve it to their guests.
They really liked it, and she highlighted that it was delicious. The actress also said that she was not offended by the comments that they received because of the cake.
Carla Abellana said that they wanted to be happy with their wedding cake, and everybody got a slice. “Kasi din, in a way, on a high pa kami from the wedding, so we’re happy and excited pa so kapag ganu’n na may masasabi, opinion or what, criticism, it doesn’t really affect us,” she added.
