Gerald Anderson’s Surprising Career Move—Now a Film Producer for MMFF 2025!

After “Sins of the Father,” Gerald Anderson Produces His First Movie “Rekonek”

GERALD ANDERSON – Kapamilya star Gerald Anderson proves there’s more to him than acting as he embarks on a new adventure as a film producer for “Rekonek,” his debut entry for the MMFF.

From starring and directing in his primetime drama “Sins of the Father,” Gerald Anderson is now venturing into a new chapter of his career — as a film producer. The Kapamilya star’s own company, The Th3rd Floor Studios, has teamed up with Reality MM Studios to co-produce the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry titled “Rekonek.”

This project marks Anderson’s debut in movie production. While he has previously focused on business ventures in fitness and tourism, this latest move highlights his expanding passion for storytelling and his desire to make an impact on Philippine cinema.

In sharing his inspiration for this career shift, Anderson said, “Ang pangarap ko po talaga dito ay makapag-produce ng iba’t ibang klaseng proyekto, makapagbigay ng maraming trabaho, makapag-contribute sa cinema ng Pilipinas.“ He continued, “And in the future, kahit hindi ako ‘yung bida, makapag-direk ako ng isang pelikula at isang proyekto. Marami pang oportunidad na binibigay sa atin. Ako naman ‘yung taong ayaw sayangin ‘yung pagkakataon.”

“Rekonek” follows the lives of different individuals whose paths cross during a worldwide internet outage just ten days before Christmas. According to Anderson and Reality MM Studios producer Dondon Monteverde, the story carries a universal message that audiences will easily relate to, as it reflects the value of human connection in the digital age.

As Anderson thoughtfully explained, “May mga tao sa buhay natin na we should reconnect with, may mga hindi. May mga kasama lang sa journey natin, parang passers-by lang.” He added, “There’s also times na you have to grow to become better people and reconnect somewhere in time.”

During the movie’s media conference, Anderson was asked whether he had “reconnected” with his ex-girlfriend Julia Barretto after rumors of reconciliation surfaced following their reported breakup. The actor simply smiled and remained quiet. Monteverde quickly redirected the topic back to the film’s message, while Anderson jokingly said, “Basta sa ‘Rekonek’ na pelikula, sasagutin ko.”

In addition to “Rekonek,” Anderson is also part of the much-awaited sequel of “Buy Bust,” another project under Reality MM Studios — further cementing his reputation as both a versatile actor and a rising producer in the local entertainment scene.
