Drug Suspect in Parañaque City Dies of Heart Attack During Buy-Bust Operation

A drug suspect died of a heart attack while authorities were placing him under arrest during a buy-bust operation in Parañaque City.

On Tuesday (August 19, 2025), operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a buy-bust operation at a hotel in Parañaque City. They were able to seize around P6.8 million worth of suspected illegal drugs from the operation.

However, the situation became tense when one of the suspects resisted arrest. In the heat of the commotion, the man reportedly stabbed one of the officers, prompting a scuffle as authorities struggled to subdue him and secure the weapon.

During the struggle, the suspect suddenly experienced difficulty breathing. Moments later, he collapsed and lost consciousness. Agents immediately rushed him to the nearest hospital, but doctors later declared him dead due to a heart attack.

The man was identified only by the alias “Stephen,” a 40-year-old resident of Makati City. His sudden death came as a shock, as the arrest was expected to be a routine operation that escalated quickly.

Despite the tragic outcome, PDEA officials emphasized that the operation prevented a large amount of illegal drugs from reaching the streets. They also confirmed that the officer who was injured during the scuffle received treatment and is now in stable condition.
