A 59-year-old local restaurant owner was robbed by two motorcycle-riding suspects and lost more than P240,000 worth of jewelry in Sampaloc, Manila.
A peaceful evening in Sampaloc, Manila turned into a scene of fear when the owner of a local noodle shop was robbed at gunpoint, losing over P240,000 worth of jewelry in just seconds.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. when four men on two motorcycles stopped in front of the eatery. CCTV footage showed them getting off their bikes, and moments later, chaos broke out as they pointed guns at the 59-year-old shop owner. People nearby quickly scattered for safety.
In the video, the victim can be seen trying to resist as two of the armed men confronted him. Despite his efforts, he was forced to hand over his gold necklace and bracelet before the suspects fled on their motorcycles. The entire ordeal lasted only 23 seconds.
According to the victim, it was clear he was the target. He shared that he had even hidden his necklace inside his pants, but the robbers were determined. While the jewelry was valuable, he was thankful his life was spared.
No other customers or bystanders were harmed during the incident, but it left the community shaken. Local businesses are now asking barangay officials to increase patrols in the area to help prevent similar crimes.
Barangay 526 officials admitted they have several watchmen, but they are not equipped to match the firepower of the suspects. It was also unfortunate that the police had just completed their patrol when the robbers struck.
Authorities believe the suspects are experienced, noting the quality of their firearms and the swift execution of the crime. The Manila Police District has launched a follow-up operation in hopes of identifying and arresting the culprits.
For now, the noodle shop owner is left without his prized jewelry, but grateful that he survived a tragic encounter.
