AI AI DELAS ALAS – Turning criticism into comedy, Ai Ai delas Alas took to Facebook to set the record straight about her daring fashion choices.
Veteran comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas has addressed Gen Z netizens who criticized her eye-catching outfit at the GMA Gala 2025, emphasizing that her flair for bold fashion has been an integral part of her identity for decades.
In a Facebook post, the Comedy Queen tackled the online remarks, revealing that her passion for eccentric clothing dates back to the late 1980s, well before she became a well-known figure in the entertainment industry. She recalled her years performing in local bars and clubs, where wearing striking costumes was already second nature to her.
“HELLO mga Gen Z ‘s.. mga baby girls, baby boys, little baklets and little tibambolbees, inform lang kayo ng MAMA AI AI nyo .. itong mga pictures nato mga 1987-1989 nag work ako as sing along master sa Music Box sa QC kung saan kasama ko si Arnel Ignacio,” she shared, posting throwback photos from her early days.
Ai Ai looked back on her performances in places like Studio Bar in Malate and her frequent visits to the famous Subway Disco, where her unusual fashion sense would often earn applause from strangers.
“…lukalukahan ako and nasanay ako kahit nag ka club ako ganyan ako .. nag lalakad ako sa malate bilang walking distance ang studio bar to SUBWAY DISCO (na napakasikat noon na lahat ng designers na sikat pumupunta dun at pag pumapasok ako nag papalakpakan hahaha) na HINDI NAMAN NILA AKO KILALA KUNG SINO AKO.”
She reminded her young critics that her signature style emerged long before their generation—even before some of their parents were born. “kaya mga mga bagets baka wala pa mga nanay at tatay nyo sa mundo ganito na ‘ko.”
The actress also made it clear that she does not imitate anyone, not even world-famous personalities. “WALA akong ginagaya at hindi ako nag papansin natural ko na yan .. nag level up lang ako kasi may pera nakong pambili ng kung ano ano, minsan nga pag nakikita ko Lady Gaga kilala kaya nya ko ginagaya kaya nya ko ??? Hahaha #feelingera.”
