Bong Go Votes “Yes” To Archiving Sara Duterte’s Impeachment Case, Calls on Fellow Senators To “Move On”

Sen. Bong Go Supports Motion to Archive the Impeachment Case of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte

BONG GO – The Duterte known-ally who supported the motion to archive Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment case called on his fellow lawmakers to move on.

The Senate held a session yesterday and discussed the Supreme Court ruling on the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Its decision which was released prior to the opening of the 20th Congress declared the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte as “unconstitutional”.

The Supreme Court ruling was in response to the petition filed by Duterte herself, Atty, Israelito Torreon, and many others seeking for the dismissal of the impeachment raps against the Vice President. Despite the ruling, the SC clarified that its decision does not dismisses the charges filed against Duterte.

Yesterday, the Senate voted to archive the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte with a 19-5 voting. The motion filed by Blue Ribbon Committee chairman Rodante Marcoleta was initially to dismiss the impeachment case against Duterte but he, later on, agreed to change it to archiving.

The motion filed by Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto to table the motion of Marcoleta lost. On the motion of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman, 19 senators supported the archiving of the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Only four (4) senators opposed the motion and one (1) of them abstained from voting.

The senators explained their side as they voted for the motion. For his part, known Duterte-ally Sen. Bong Go said he supports the archiving of the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in accordance to the ruling of the Supreme Court.

Based on a post on Inquirer’s social media page, Sen. Bong Go also called on his fellow senators to move on and to focus on other matters. According to him, their mandate is to craft laws that would benefit the Filipino people.

“Let’s move on, so that we can better fulfill our basic mandate, and this is to forge laws, laws that can help our fellow Filipino people,” Go said.

Prior to becoming a senator, Sen. Bong Go was a long-time personal assistant of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He is really close to the Duterte family and is also one of the members of the so-called Duterte bloc in the Senate.

Previously, another Duterte bloc member, presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos called for respect for the Supreme Court on its ruling over Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment case. She has sided with the Duterte family amid the feud between the Marcoses and the Dutertes.

As for Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto on the archiving of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s impeachment case, he said, “May God have mercy on your decision”.
