Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo Reacts To Arrest of Former Cong. Arnie Teves in Timor-Leste
JANICE DEGAMO – The widow of the late former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo reacted to the arrest of former Congressman Arnie Teves in Timor-Leste.
The death of the late former Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo shattered countless hearts most especially those of his family and supporters. The then-Governor was shot at his residence in Pamplona and several other people were dragged into the incident.
Several men barged in the residence of the Degamos in Pamplona. His wife, Janice Degamo, is the mayor of Pamplona. The men shot Degamo and several other individuals at the place of the incident.
The former Governor was rushed to the hospital but he did not make it. Several other individuals died from the incident and many others were left injured. Then Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves was accused as the alleged mastermind of the Degamo slay.
Teves was nowhere to be found in the Philippines when his name was implicated in the death of Degamo. He was already in abroad. Through social media posts, he denied the accusations against him. Janice Degamo, the wife of the slain Governor, called for justice for the death of her husband.
There were several calls for former Cong. Arnie Teves to return to the country and face the accusations against him but he denied it. Arnie Teves was held under a house arrest in Timor-Leste amid the Department of Justice (DOJ) pushing for his extradition.
The DOJ won the extradition case against Arnie Teves but the camp of the former Negros Oriental Congressman made an appeal to the Timor-Leste Court for the reversal of the decision. In December, the foreign court once again upheld its prior decision.
However, for another time, the camp of Teves filed an appeal. Recently, countless Filipinos were surprised when reports about the arrest of Arnie Teves in Timor-Leste crossed the surface. His son, Axl Teves, claimed that the arrest was allegedly “warrantless”.
Based on a report on GMA News, Janice Degamo has spoken on the arrest of former Negros Oriental Congressman Arnie Teves amid an ongoing pursuit to give justice to the death of her husband, the late former Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo.
“We now look forward to the proper legal proceedings that will bring lasting peace to our province and long overdue justice for my beloved Roel and the hundreds of others who suffered at the hands of the Teves Terrorist Group,” the widow of Degamo said.
Based on the report, Teves was arrested by the immigration officers as per his son. Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo who was also elected as the incoming Negros Oriental 3rd district Representative said Teves’ arrest is believed to be due to his status as an illegal alien, his being a subject of Interpol alert, and for having no valid Philippine passport.
“For over two years, our call has been clear and unwavering, that those responsible for this heinous crime must be held accountable, no matter how far they run or how long they hide,” Mayor Janice Degamo said.
Previously, amid the calls for him to return to the country and face the accusations against him, Arnie Teves claimed that two (2) high-ranking officials in the government allegedly want him dead.
