Malacañang denied that President Bongbong Marcos is pushing for the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.

The Vice President stayed in The Hague for more than three (3) weeks for former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte who is currently detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Amid the elder Duterte’s detention, Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero maintained that the impeachment trial will push through.

Escudero previously proposed July 30 as the tentative start of the impeachment trial. He turned down several calls to immediately start the impeachment trial saying that the Senate session is on break and they follow a legislative calendar.

Upon her return to the Philippines, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte met with her lawyers who are “more than confident” to win the impeachment trial. According to the Vice President, her confidence is on her legal counsels who are handling the case.

Malacañang Claire Castro

Malacañang tagged the confidence of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s lawyers as a “strategy”. The Palace also previously stressed that the impeachment trial is not in the hands of Pres. Bongbong Marcos but the Senate.

Recently, based on a report on GMA News, Malacañang press undersecretary Claire Catsro was asked during a press briefing if the Marcos administration is confident in pushing through with the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte given the incoming set of senators.

The Palace official denied that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is pushing for the impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. She stressed that there is no any news about it.

”Wala pong anumang balita patungkol sa pag-pursue ng Pangulo sa impeachment o sa impeachment trial ni VP Sara so iyan po ay ating tinututulan at pinasisinungalingan po,” she said.

Furthermore, based on the report, Castro said that there was no any statement that the Malacañang is confident in impeaching Duterte.

”Wala pong sinasabing anumang pagkumpiyansa na para mapatalsik o matanggal sa puwesto ang Bise Presidente,” the Palace official said.

Previously, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that she is “at peace” whatever is the result of the impeachment trial. She also denied that her campaigns for the senatorial candidates were for her and her father’s benefit.
