Nora Aunor Cause Of Death, Final Moments Revealed

The children of superstar Nora Aunor revealed the cause of her death and shared her final moments.

NORA AUNOR CAUSE OF DEATH – The superstar died at the age of 71, and this is the truth behind her passing, according to her children.

On the evening of April 16, Ian De Leon confirmed the death of Nora Aunor, the superstar of Philippine cinema. She was 71, and many people who were saddened poured in their condolences for the family she had survived.

“We love you Ma.. alam ng diyos kung gano ka namin ka mahal.. pahinga ka na po Ma… nandito ka lang sa puso at isipan namin…” Ian said on Facebook.

Aunor’s legacy in the Philippines’ cinema industry was recalled. Some of the movies she made were “Minsa’y May Isang Gamu-Gamo” (1976), “Bona” (1980), “Himala” (1982), “Bulaklak sa City Jail” (1984),  and more recently, “Mananambal” (2024).

In her career that spanned decades, she collected the following recognitions:

• 17 FAMAS nominations and induction into the FAMAS Hall of Fame (1992)
• 21 Gawad Urian nominations with seven wins
• Eight Metro Manila Film Festival Awards
• Nine PMPC Star Awards
• Four Luna Awards

• International recognition from festivals in Cairo, Hawaii, and Tokyo

What is the cause of the superstar’s death?

“Technically and clinically speaking, the cause of death was acute respiratory failure,” says Ian during an interview with Vicky Morales in 24 Oras. Apart from this detail, he did not further elaborate or reveal more.

She underwent an operation, but instead of getting better, she suffered difficulty breathing, and ever since, she has not gotten better. This prompted them to do another procedure.

In her last moments, she was surrounded by her children Ian, Lotlot, Matet, and Kenneth. The doctor had four attempts to revive her, but to no avail. She was confined for a week before she died on April 16 at exactly 9:53 PM.
