Sen. Cynthia Villar Airs Side on Unexpected Arrest of Former Pres. Duterte
CYNTHIA VILLAR – The Senator expressed her side on the arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte under the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant.
The senators in the Philippines have different opinions on the unexpected arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. On Monday, the former Chief Executive of the country was arrested by the members of the Philippine National Police upon his arrival from Hong Kong.

Duterte was detained for several hours but was flown out from the Philippines before the day has ended. He was en route for the Netherlands where he will face a trial before the International Criminal Court or ICC in The Hague.
The ICC welcomed the arrest and transfer of former Pres. Duterte to their custody. Following the rules, he was brought for a check-up at a hospital before he was brought to the detention facility.

Former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is set to appear before the Pre-Trial Chamber of the ICC today, March 14. His daughter, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, is set to see him in the Netherlands.

Senator Bato dela Rosa believes that Pres. Bongbong Marcos allegedly committed “betrayal to the max” over the arrest of Duterte. Presidential sister Sen. Imee Marcos was also shocked by the unexpected turn of events.
As for Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero, the government abided by the legal process over the arrest of the former President. He shares the same stand with Malacañang and Pres. Bongbong Marcos who insisted the same.

As for Sen. Cynthia Villar, based on a report on the Philippine Star, the female Senator does not agree with the move of the government to allow the arrest of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the ICC. She stressed that the country should have not done it.
“I don’t agree. We don’t give our former president to the foreigner,” Sen. Cynthia Villar said.

Based on the report, the husband of Sen. Cynthia Villar, business giant and former Sen. Manny Villar, has also expressed his hope that former Pres. Duterte will have the chance to defend himself in the Philippine courts “under the protection of our country’s rule of law”. Meanwhile, he trusts the judgment of the ICC.
“I trust that the ICC will conduct fair judicial proceedings, protecting the rights of the defendants,” Villar said.
The Alyansa Para Sa Pagbabago which is led by Pres. Bongbong Marcos is set to hold a campaign rally in Tacloban today. Amid being shocked, Sen. Imee Marcos skipped the Alyansa campaign sortie saying she cannot accept what happened to Duterte.
