The camp of Pastor Quiboloy claimed that it was a surrender which was an “ultimate sacrifice”. It came after a few weeks of intense Philippine National Police (PNP) operations inside the Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound in Davao City.

There were reportedly drilling activities in the pursuit to locate Quiboloy who was in hiding for several months prior to his arrest. The KOJC founder and leader is faced with charges reportedly not only in the Philippines but as well as abroad amid complaints against him.

Thus, countless Filipinos were surprised when Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for senator was filed by his lawyer. According to his legal counsel, the Pastor will be the senator for the poor.

Undeniably, the senatorial bid of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy gained different reactions from the people. A motion to block his senatorial candidacy was even filed but the Comelec en banc junked the motion to block Pastor Quiboloy’s candidacy for senator.

Recently, a hearing of the case filed against Pastor Apollo Quiboloy was held. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Apollo Quiboloy’s lawyer, Atty. Israelito Torreon, said the Pastor attended the hearing despite a persistent cough. He admitted that he initially planned to file a motion seeking to excuse the Pastor from the hearing.

“At around 10:00 in the evening last night, I was about to file a motion that he be excused from personally appearing today but I figured that would not look good to the public,” Torreon said.

Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s lawyer stressed that he really tried despite his persistent cough to show to the court that he did not commit a mistake. Based on the report, the lawyer said that their camp is hopeful that after the cross examination and the presentation of the evidence, the Court will be able to release a verdict “that the evidence of guilt is not strong”.

“So kinaya po ni pastor, maski malakas po ang ubo niya, pumunta talaga siya dito sa korte para ipakita na wala siyang kasalanan,” the lawyer said.

Previously, the camp of Pastor Quiboloy planned to take back the appeal of his transfer to Pasig City Jail.
