Chelsea Anne Manalo brings pride to the Philippines after winning the Best National Costume award at Miss Universe 2024.
Miss Universe Philippines 2024 Chelsea Anne Manalo has once again brought honor to the country by winning the Best National Costume award at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant, which was held in Mexico. It is the second consecutive year the country has earned this title.
The award-winning costume, titled “Hiraya,” was designed by Filipino artist Manny Halasan. This masterpiece took three months to complete and was a tribute to the rich history and cultural ties between the Philippines and Mexico.
The design highlighted the legacy of the Manila Galleon Trade, a historic connection between the two nations that spanned over two centuries.
The major elements of the costume included intricate Islamic patterns, Puni art from Bulacan, and a stunning beaded boat headpiece representing the galleon ships. It also featured an image of Our Lady of Antipolo, symbolizing the country’s deep religious traditions.
The online voting process played a huge role in Chelsea’s win, with supporters around the globe rallying behind her. She emerged as the top favorite, ahead of Chile’s Emilia Dides in second place and Vietnam’s Kỳ Duyên Nguyễn in third.
Manalo’s achievement adds to the Philippines’ legacy in the pageant, making it the fourth time a Filipina has been recognized for Best National Costume. Charlene Gonzales first claimed the title in 1994, followed by Gazini Ganados in 2019 and Michelle Dee in 2023.
Chelsea also made it to the Top 30 finalists and earned the title of Miss Universe Asia, further showing her grace and talent on the international scene.
