DILG Vehicle Receives Violation Ticket for Illegally Driving Through EDSA Busway
The transportation department’s personnel issued a violation ticket to the DILG vehicle, which was caught illegally driving through the EDSA Busway.
On Thursday night (November 28, 2024) around 7:20 PM, a government vehicle from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) was flagged for illegally driving through the EDSA Busway.
The incident was captured on video during an operation by the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) Special Action and Incident Command Team (SAICT).
In the video, three traffic enforcers can be seen stopping an SUV, which turned out to be a government vehicle. However, the driver didn’t stop immediately and almost hit one of the enforcers in the process.
The vehicle finally came to a halt, and the driver provided the necessary documents to the authorities. He identified himself as a police officer.
The driver initially attempted to flee the scene, but the enforcers chased after the vehicle and managed to stop it. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the vehicle was registered under the DILG.
The driver was issued a Temporary Operator’s Permit for violations including disregarding traffic signs and reckless driving.
According to Gesmundo, the EDSA Busway is meant only for accredited buses, emergency vehicles, and a select group of top government officials.
At ‘yung mga top 5 officials of the country ang pinapayagan, other than that ay kailangang managot na,” he explained.
Gesmundo stressed that ambulances must have patients on board to be allowed to use the busway.
With the holiday season starting, Gesmundo also called on the public to consider using public transportation instead of private cars to help ease traffic congestion along EDSA. He pointed out that EDSA has two types of public transport, the Busway and the MRT-3. There has been no official response from the DILG regarding the incident so far.
