On Monday (October 28, 2024), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. Tropical Storm Leon will affect the country’s weather conditions.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio reported that Tropical Storm Leon (international name Kong-Rey) was located 40 kilometers east of Central Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 105 kph.
The weather system is expected to intensify gradually in the next 24 hours and may reach a severe tropical storm category by this afternoon. It may pass closely over the Batanes area by Wednesday (October 30) or Thursday (October 31).
Leon is expected to make a landfall over Taiwan by early morning of Friday (November 1) before heading to East China Sea. “Sa araw ng Biyernes, maaaring mag-landfall ang gitna o center ng bagyong Leon sa Taiwan,” Aurelio said.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was in the following areas:

Tropical Storm Leon’s trough will bring rains over the western section of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The weather agency has advised the residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the coastal water condition over the seaboard of Batanes will be very rough. The seaboard of Babuyan Islands, Isabela, eastern seaboard of mainland Cagayan, northern Aurora, Camarines Norte, mainland Cagayan, Polillo Islands, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar will have rough surrounding sea conditions.
“Mariners of motorbancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigation under these conditions,” PAGASA said.
