Former VP Leni Robredo Remains under Liberal Party, To Seek Mayoralty Post in Naga
LIBERAL PARTY – The political party of former Vice President Leni Robredo announced that she will run for mayor in Naga City in 2025.
The LP is one of the political parties in the Philippines that is existing for decades now and has millions of supporters across the nation. In the 2022 Elections, its list of candidates was led by the Leni-Kiko tandem.
However, both former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo in the presidential election and former Senator Kiko Pangilinan in the vice presidential election lost their respective races. Most of the candidates in the senatorial slate of the Leni-Kiko tandem also did not secure spots in the Senate.
The 2022 Elections brought the Liberal Party one of its biggest loss. Meanwhile, visibly, the said loss was not able to stop the political party. It recently held a national assembly in San Juan.
Based on the report on GMA News Balitambayan, at the national assembly of the Liberal Party, former Quezon Representative Erin Tañada announced that former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo will run for mayor in Naga City in the 2025 Midterm Elections.
Former VP Leni’s late husband, former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo, has served as Naga City Mayor for several years prior to his appointment in the interior department.
It was under the term of the late former Pres. Noynoy Aquino when Jesse was appointed to lead the DILG. However, in 2012, a plane crash ended the life of the former Naga City Mayor who was known for his simplicity and dedication to service.
During his stint as mayor, Atty. Leni Robredo who has yet to enter the field of politics then used to drive for her husband at night as they would check around the street lights. Even before she became the vice president, Jesse’s wife is already close to the people through lawyering them.
Following her husband’s death, Leni Robredo ran for vice president in the 2016 elections and won the vice presidency. In 2022, she ran for the presidency but lost. She was the only female candidate for the presidency then.
The BBM-Sara tandem was victorious at the 2022 Elections. Meanwhile, despite being on rival teams in politics, former Vice Pres. Leni Robredo congratulated Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, her successor in the held of the OVP.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also visited former VP Leni Robredo in Naga City. The former went to the house of the latter and they had a conversation that lasted for an hour.
