PNP Asserts Chief No Intention To Offend Anyone
PNP – The Philippine National Police issued a statement of apology to the public over its chief’s friendly photo with former Mayor Alice Guo.
The arrest of former Mayor Alice Guo in Indonesia sparked the hope of countless Filipinos that justice will prevail — either on the side of Guo or the country which is victimized by illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming operations.
Guo was arrested by the Indonesian authorities in a rented apartment in Jakarta, Indonesia. Aside from the accusations linking her to the illegal POGO operations in Bamban, Tarlac, the former Mayor is also being questioned about her identity.
The fingerprints of Guo matched with the fingerprints of Guo Hua Ping, a Chinese national, which speaks that they are the same person. The former Mayor reportedly flew to Malaysia in July then moved to Singapore and Indonesia where she was arrested.
Prior to the arrest of former Mayor Alice Guo, her alleged companions, Shiela Guo and Cassandra Li Ong, were detained in Indonesia and sent back to the Philippines. The supposed sister of Alice is currently under the custody of the Senate while Ong, an alleged representative of the illegal POGO hub in Porac, Pampanga, was sent to the House of Representatives.
However, Cassandra Ong was taken to the hospital and was excused from the House hearing after falling ill. She previously denied being friends or business partners with Alice Guo. According to her, she only knows the former Mayor because her boyfriend, Wesley Guo, is Alice’s brother.
The Philippine authorities went to Indonesia following the confirmation that former Mayor Alice Guo was arrested by the Indonesian authorities. Among those who went to see Guo for her turn-over were Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos and PNP Chief Rommel Marbil.
However, the friendly photo of the Interior Secretary and the PNP Chief did not sit well with countless Filipinos. Visibly, former Mayor Guo is in a happy disposition despite her arrest and homecoming to the Philippines where several charges await her.
Recently, the PNP apologized over the said friendly photo of their chief, Rommel Marbil, and the DILG Secretary with former Mayor Alice Guo. Based on a report on GMA News, it assured the public that the authorities meant no harm.
“Kung meron mang na-offend, kung meron mang hindi nagustuhan po ‘yun ay humihingi tayo ng pasensya… I’m sure SILG and Chief PNP ay aware naman po sa mga naririnig. There was no intention on their part to offend anyone,” PNP spokesperson Jean Fajardo said.
President Bongbong Marcos has also reacted to the photos of the authorities with former Mayor Alice Guo. He saw nothing wrong about it saying that the Philippines is the “selfie capital of the world”.
The former Mayor will be housed in the detention room where former Senator Leila de Lima was detained for 7 years. Previously, former Mayor Guo explained why she is happy in photos with the Philippine authorities.
