EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.0 magnitude quake in Quezon, September 4, 2024. Here are the details.

Following the 5.7 magnitude quake in Northern Samar yesterday, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Quezon and it has a magnitude of 5.0.

The earthquake that struck Quezon, Wednesday, September 4, 2024, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Quezon was located at 14.94°North, 122.60°East – 039 km North 47° East of Jomalig. It had a depth of focus of 009 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was felt at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby area. No instrumental intensities were recorded as well.
