Fire Truck Allegedly Used to Fill Private Pool Elicits Reactions Online
The Department of the Interior and Local Government is investigating a fire truck that was allegedly used to fill a private pool.
Recently, the Facebook page “Taytay Updates” shared a photo showing a fire truck apparently being used to fill a private swimming pool in Taytay, Rizal. The post quickly spread like wildfire on social media and garnered various reactions online.
According to the post, the truck was using a hose to fill the swimming pool at the private residence in Maharlika Village with water drawn from a fire hydrant.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is taking this matter seriously and has launched an investigation.
On August 16, 2024, DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. issued an urgent order for the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to look into the situation. Secretary Abalos directed Fire Director Louie Puracan to immediately determine if the claims were true.
He also asked the BFP to identify any personnel involved in the incident, which he described as “unscrupulous.” If the investigation confirms the misuse of the fire truck, the involved personnel might be suspended while further action is considered.
“[I]f warranted, they should be relieved from their post pending the result of a formal investigation,” said Abalos.
Secretary Abalos is expecting a prompt report from the BFP on this issue. The investigation aims to determine whether public resources were improperly used for personal gain, which would be a serious misuse of government equipment.
The public is closely watching the result of this investigation, as it will determine the next steps and ensure that such misuse does not happen again.
