Mass Hysteria Hits Private School Students in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental
The private school students in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental were allegedly caught up in mass hysteria.
Mass hysteria often happens in stressful situations or during times of great uncertainty. It can be triggered by things like rumors, stress, or cultural beliefs. In some cases, the symptoms are psychological rather than physical, but they can still cause a lot of distress and confusion.
On Monday afternoon (August 5, 2024) something unusual happened at a private school in Brgy. Prosperidad, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. Many students from Grades 8 and 9 were caught up in what is being called a case of mass hysteria.
The commotion started when students began having trouble breathing and felt like they were being affected by evil spirits. The situation quickly worsened as more students experienced similar feelings. The school, located in a hilly area, made it difficult to get immediate help.
Initial reports say that about 15 students were injured in the chaos. However, Captain Nestor Tranilla later mentioned that over 30 students were taken to the hospital for treatment. Some students were even brought to a nearby chapel because they believed that evil spirits were causing their distress.
Mass hysteria can happen when a group of people, often in a stressful environment, start to feel symptoms of illness or panic together. This can spread quickly and make everyone feel worse.
For example, if one person in a group starts to act strangely or complains about feeling sick, others might begin to feel the same way, even if there’s no physical cause.
The authorities are still trying to figure out how many students were affected and the exact cause of the incident. Medical teams and local officials worked hard to help the students and ensure that everyone got the care they needed.
It’s a reminder of how important it is to stay calm and seek help when faced with frightening situations.
