OVP Issues Statement on Vice President Sara Duterte’s Flight Abroad
OVP – The Office of the Vice President confirmed that VP Sara Duterte left the Philippines amid the onslaught of Typhoon Carina.
Several areas in the Philippines were declared under a State of Calamity due to Typhoon Carina. The storm brought heavy rains and strong winds in several cities and municipalities which triggered flooding.
State of Calamity was declared in the National Capital Region (NCR) after the typhoon left it flooded. Countless families lost their homes and livelihoods to the wratch of Typhoon Carina. Thousands of families had to be evacuated for their safety.
Amid the onslaught of Typhoon Carina in the Philippines, reports that Vice President Sara Duterte left the country while the storm is lashing out at Metro Manila crossed the surface. It elicited different reactions from the netizens.
There were netizens who were disappointed by the Vice President leaving the country amid a natural calamity while there were those who understood that a typhoon is an unpredictable event and the VP has the right to spend some time with her family.
There are rumors that Vice Pres. Duterte left the country and flew to Germany with her family and her mother. Recently, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Office of the Vice President released a statement on the matter.
The OVP confirmed that Vice Pres. Sara Duterte flew overseas amid the wrath of Typhoon Carina in the Philippines. Her office admitted that the timing of her trip abroad is “unfortunate” but assured that the Vice President has “institutionalized” their Disaster Operations Center and it can operate even without her.
Based on the statement of the OVP, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is “on a personal trip with her family” and her departure got the approvals required. Based on the report, her office revealed that the Office of the President had issued a travel authority for the Vice President dated July 9, 2024.
The Office of the Vice President expressed its gratitude to the public for respecting the privacy of the other members of her family. Her office did not disclose as to whether or not it is true that the Vice President and her family is in Germany right now or gave details about their destination.
