Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Northern Samar, January 24, 2024

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.1 magnitude quake in Northern Samar today, January 24, 2024. Here are the details.

Following the 5.1 magnitude earthquake in Surigao del Sur several days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in another province. According to the agency, the quake hit Northern Samar today and it had a magnitude of 4.1.

Earthquake Today

The earthquake today that struck Northern Samar, Wednesday, January 24, 2023, was tectonic in origin.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Northern Samar was located at 12.79°North, 125.58°East – 049 km North 46° East of Mapanas. It had a depth of focus of 006 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
