8-year-old Boy Playing with a Gun Accidentally Shots Friend in Zamboanga City
An 8-year-old boy who was allegedly playing with a loaded gun accidentally shots his friend in Zamboanga City.
A gun purportedly used by an eight-year-old child was confiscated by police. In Patalon, Zamboanga City, he inadvertently shot his 12-year-old pal. According to a source, the victim was transported to the hospital with a bullet wound in the shoulder from a.45 caliber gun.
According to Labuan Police Station 10 chief Major Ramon Acquitan, the incident occurred when the suspect pulled out a revolver while talking to the victim and two other youngsters during the investigation. Acquitan stated that the child is completely oblivious that the rifle is loaded with bullets.
“Nang tinanggal niya ang magazine [pinaglalagyan ng mga bala], siguro inisip niya na walang nakasalang na bala yung .45 [baril]. Itinutok niya sa kaniyang mga kalaro kumbaga naglalaro sila, bigla, accidentally nakalabit niya ang gatilyo at tinamaan ‘yung kaniyang kaharap na kaibigan,” said Acquitan.
The victim is claimed to have departed after the event but returned later that night. According to the report of GMA News, he revealed the authorities where he had hidden the gun. The gun appears to be the property of the suspect’s father, who works as a field steward.
A ballistic test will be performed on the gun. Acquitan reminded the parents, “Dapat talaga nakasubaybay ang mga magulang, nakasalalay sa kanila yung kaligtasan at ang kapakanan ng kanilang mga anak.”
