Joey de Leon was the one who created the famous ‘Eat Bulaga’ title
Henyo Master Joey de Leon shared the story of how he came up with the title “Eat Bulaga” for their noontime show.
Joey, Tito and Vic Sotto have been providing entertainment and laughter to Pinoy households for over four decades now. The longest-running noontime show is celebrating its 44 years this year.
However, the celebration wouldn’t be the same again as TVJ has decided to leave the management of their producer TAPE Inc. These past months, the issue surrounding Eat Bulaga and the people behind has become the talk of the town.
As uncertainties arose, avid viewers of the noontime show were wondering what would happen next. Following TVJ’s decision to depart from TAPE, Joey de Leon has been sharing trivia and information about their noontime show.
One of the recent posts he shared talked about the title of the show. He shared a photo of the Eat Bulaga coffee table book titled Ang Unang Tatlong Dekada. This was released for the 30th anniversary of the show.
A page talked about how Joey created the title. “And what do you do in a canteen? Of Course, EAT! And that became my appetizer to help me through until I came up with a delicious title – Eat Bulaga!” the book stated.
In the caption of his post, the Henyo Master shared that he thought of the title while he was having coffee in Tito’s kitchen. “Something came up sa aking utak in 1979 while having coffee sa kusina ni Tito sa White Plains. I was in the company of a certain Jess Espiritu. Hmmm, JESUS and HOLY SPIRIT? Salamat po,” he said.
In the comment section of the post that Joey de Leon shared, solid Dabarkads shared their stories about the longest-running noontime show. “No legal document can take Eat Bulaga away from you. The viewers will be the ultimate judge who they feel owns Eat Bulaga! Eat Bulaga will always be yours!!!!!” Instagram user @theloveforblush commented.
