Manilyn Reynes Opposes Opinion of Liza Soberano About Love Teams in PH
Veteran actress Manilyn Reynes expresses disagreement with the opinion of actress Liza Soberano about love teams in the Philippines.
Manilyn Reynes stated her two scents on the newest episode of Boy Abunda’s show “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” concerning Liza Soberano’s assertion that an actress must be part of a love team to become popular in the Philippines. Manilyn disagrees with Liza since artists, she claims, can do things alone.
“Disagree. Certainly kaya mong gawin ‘yan on your own. You always go back to, ano ‘yung talent na ibinigay sa ‘yo? Hindi mo kailangan ng isa pa. Hindi ko sinasabi na hindi mo kailangan ng ka-love team. Somewhere, sometime, somehow, kailangan meron ka ring ka-love team lalo kapag growing up, teenager ka,” said Manilyn in “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda”.
Manilyn is a well-known actress from her day. In the 1980s, she was a member of love teams with Janno Gibbs, Keempee de Leon, and Ogie Alcasid. For Manilyn, the artist must use all of his abilities.
“Pero of course you can do it on your own. ‘Yun na nga, ipakita mo what you’ve got,” explained the actress.
“Huwag nga kasi half-baked. Sa totoo lang, ang hirap ng half-baked ng ginawa mo, kapag napansin mo rin kapag napanood mo, ‘Ay, parang meron pa ako dapat ibinigay. Bakit doon lang?’ Manilyn said in the interview.
Liza addressed her thoughts on love teams in the Philippine entertainment business in a previous interview. According to her, in love teams, artists are supposed to be with that one person throughout their careers and personal lives, and fans don’t want to see them with another male actor or any other guy in general.
“What happens at the beginning of your career is they kind of test you, they put you in a project together where you guys are not necessarily the leads, and it’s kind of like a chemistry test. And in the Philippines, the only way to become a really big star really, if you’re not a singer, is to be in a love team,” she added.
