CCTV Caught ‘Akyat-Bahay’ Suspect Stealing Valuables From House in Talisay City, Cebu
A CCTV captured the face of an alleged ‘Akyat-Bahay’ suspect after burglarizing a house in Talisay City, Cebu.
A suspected member of an “akyat-bahay” group was arrested in Talisay City, Cebu, Philippines, for allegedly burglarizing a house and taking valuables worth P161,000 on April 30, 2023.
The arrest of the suspect, identified as Michael Dente, was made possible through the help of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that captured his face while committing the crime.
According to reports, Dente was arrested on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, after police authorities were able to identify him through the CCTV footage obtained from the victim’s house. The incident happened in Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City, where Dente allegedly broke into the house and stole various valuable items.
The CCTV footage showed Dente entering the house at night and leaving with several items, including laptop worth P45, 000, a Nintendo 3D console, a tablet, a pair of Airpods, several smartphone and laptop chargers, and power banks.
The suspect reportedly stole a total amount of P161,000.
“Akyat-bahay” is a term used to describe a group of criminals who specialize in breaking into homes and stealing valuables. The modus operandi of this group is to enter a house by climbing over walls, gates, or roofs.
