Bela Padilla praised her leading man in the latest movie she wrote and directed
Actress-director Bela Padilla shared her thoughts on working with South Korean actor Yoo Min-Gon in the movie Yung Libro Sa Napanood Ko.
The said movie is not Bela’s first directorial project. Prior to this, she also wrote, directed, and starred in the movie 366 with Zanjoe Marudo. Her second directorial project is one of the official entries in the Summer Metro Manila Film Festival.
In a recent interview on CNN Philippines’ New Day with Christine Jacobs-Sandejas, the multihyphenate was asked about her leading man.
Bela Padilla said that she really loves the progress that South Korea continues to do when it comes to entertainment, and also in the field of technology, beauty, and fashion. The actress-director admitted that if only she could speak fluent Korean, she would love to live in South Korea.
She can say that Yoo Min-Gon also showed confidence which amazed her. “He’s so sure of what he’s doing,” Bela said, adding that her leading man is so self-aware and this is something inspiring for her.
The actress-director said that this is actually Min-Gon’s first major film but he is already a pro. She also revealed that initially, there were two actors presented to them here in the Philippines, however, there was something missing.
Then, Bela shared that when she did a movie in South Korea in 2022, she made friends with an actress and she sent her a message. “Do you know any Korean actor who speaks perfect English and who can start filming in two weeks?” Bela asked the Korean actress as this was a sort of desperate call already.
The actress-director got a positive response and she contacted Min-Gon right away. “He was so confident,” Bela Padilla said about her leading man. It is because she initially told the Korean actor that there were two roles, one is the lead character and one is the supporting character or the best friend. She said that Min-Go told her, “I can do the lead role.
