Pinay Nursing Grad Quits Job & Finds Success w/ Seafood Resto Business in Dubai

The story of Nikki Ann L. Nuñeza, a Pinay nursing grad from the Philippines who took a different path than most of her peers inspires netizens.

While many nursing graduates from the Philippines go to Dubai with plans to eventually move to other countries like Europe, the US, Canada, or Australia, Nikki Ann L. Nuñeza took a different path.

She left the Philippines for Dubai after graduation and landed a job as an accounts executive for a mobile phone company. Her husband, Roden Michael Nuñeza, also arrived in Dubai in 2011 after having to quit pursuing a degree in engineering due to his father’s death.

After meeting and falling in love, the couple decided to save money for their dream restaurant, The Catch Seafoods and Grill Restaurant.

“Ever since my husband and I got married, we had always aspired to have our own restaurant. Driven by his passion to cook and our love for food, a dining venue had always been one that we have pictured of having when the right time comes,” Nikki Ann said.

They went through the challenging process of finding a location, completing the necessary paperwork, conceptualizing the restaurant, studying the market, and finalizing the menu.

The restaurant has become a popular destination for Filipino expats, known for its seafood boodle bestseller and other grilled favorites.

“For only less than AED 90 (P1,330), one can get their fill because we offer a variety of affordable ala carte dishes, and our pride, the ‘Maui & Moana’ is only AED 89 (P1,310),” she added.

Despite the many nursing graduates from the Philippines who find office administrative jobs in the UAE, the Nuñezas pursued their passion for the restaurant industry and created a successful business with 15 employees.
