Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Oriental, March 22, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental today, Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Davao Oriental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.2.

The earthquake that struck Davao Oriental, today, Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 12:28 p.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Governor Generoso.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Oriental was located at 06.64°North, 126.08°East – 002 km South 53° East of Governor Generoso with a depth of focus of 043 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. No intensity was recorded by the quake-monitoring agency as per its release but the following instrumental intensities were logged in these areas:

  • Intensity III
    • Malungon, Sarangani
    • Tupi, South Cotabato
  • Intensity I
    • Magpet and Kidapawan City, Cotabato
    • Davao City
    • Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental
    • General Santos City, South Cotabato
    • Tampakan, South Cotabato
    • Koronadal City, South Cotabato
