House Panel Urges Cong. Arnie Teves To Explain Prolonged Stay Abroad

HOUSE PANEL – The ethics panel of the lower chamber is giving Congressman Arnie Teves 5 days to explain his failure to return to the Philippines.

The police authorities are finalizing the investigations regarding the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo. Previously, the authorities said that they are probing everyone who might be linked to the case when asked if they are investigating Cong. Arnie Teves.

Teves was accused by one of the suspects as the alleged mastermind in the plot. Three (3) suspects who were nabbed on the same day that the Governor died are currently in the hands of the authorities.

Before one of the suspects name-dropped him as the alleged mastermind in the plot, Cong. Teves claimed that he received an information that he will be pinned down in the case. The family of Teves and the Governor are political rivals.

Pryde Henry Teves, the younger brother of the Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative, was unseated by Degamo when the latter was declared by Comelec as the rightful winner of the election for governor held in May 2022.

Cong. Arnie Teves was already in the United States when the attack at the house of Gov. Roel Degamo took place. He obtained a travel clearance from the House of Representatives which allowed him overseas until March 9. However, he has yet to return to the country and a House panel urges him to explain.

Based on an article on ABS-CBN News, the House ethics panel is giving Cong. Arnie Teves five (5) days to explain his failure to return to the Philippines after the expiry of his travel clearance. He is currently considered absent in House sessions.

Teves’ legal counsel previously expressed that the Congressman is worried about his and his family’s safety. The authorities assured him of security when he goes back to the country.
