Congressman Arnie Teves Yet To Return to PH despite Expiry of Travel Clearance

CONGRESSMAN ARNIE TEVES – House Secretary General Reginald Velasco confirmed that the Congressman requested for a 2-month leave from the House of Representatives.

Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnie Teves was dragged in the issue regarding the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo. One of the suspects in the case named him as the alleged “mastermind” behind the plot.

Prior to being named in the Degamo case, Teves who’s in the United States released a statement saying that he received an information that he will be pinned down in the case. His family and the Governor are political rivals. Degamo unseated his younger brother, Pryde Henry Teves, when the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced Degamo as the rightful winner of the 2022 gubernatorial elections.

Teves flew abroad before the incident that left the Govenor, his ally, and several civilians dead last March 4. An attack was lodged at the residential compound of the Governor in Pamplona.

The travel clearance of Congressman Arnie Teves expired last March 9. However, he has yet to come home citing concerns for his and his family’s security.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, House Secretary General Reginald Velasco confirmed that Congressman Arnie Teves is seeking a 2-month leave from the House of Representatives. He has written to House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Romualdez earlier confirmed that he has talked to Teves and reiterated his prior advice for him to come home and face the accusations against him. According to Velasco, the request of the Congressman has been forwarded to the House Committee on Ethics. Currently, he is considered absent from the sessions.
