CHAVIT SINGSON – Here’s the reason why Former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson declined to buy the Miss Universe franchise.

Chavit Singson is a Filipino politician and businessman who has been the mayor of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, from 2019 to 2022. He was the governor of Ilocos Sur, starting from 1972 until 1986, again from 1992 until 2001, again from 2004 to 2007, and from 2010 until 2013.

He also served as the Philippine government’s deputy national security adviser as well (2008). In 2007, he unsuccessfully sought senator under Team Unity.

Chavit Singson disclosed that the MU franchise was offered to him but he declined to buy it. He said, “Binibigay sa akin pero hindi ko binili kasi masyadong matrabaho. Sabi ko, tutulong na lang ako.”

He said that Anne Jakrajutatip, the new owner of Miss Universe, had extended a meeting invitation to him in Thailand. He said, “Binibigay na nga sa akin, ba’t ko bibilin e hindi ko nga maasikaso? Right now, binenta nila, iniimbita ako ng nakabili. Iniimbita ‘ko to help them.”

According to the report, Chavit Singson recalled the 2016 Miss Universe pageant he hosted in the country.

“Kahit malugi ng konti okay na sa akin kako kasi magandang advertisement sa ating bansa,” Chavit said.

The businessman claimed to have paid a non-refundable sum of $1 million (more than P55 million). After that, he added $5 million (over P275 million).

“Nakuha na ‘yung 1 million (dollars) ko so sinabi na lahat,” he said.

But Miss Universe instructed him to put down an additional $6 million (more than P330 million) to cover the pageant’s other costs in the Philippines, including the country’s hosting.

“That’s how I got the Miss Universe. Pero according to them, that’s the most successful Miss Universe ever. So after that, kinausap ako, ‘You can do it in any country you want, no more down payment may discount pa’,” Chavit said.

“Nalugi pero sulit!”
