Romualdez Questions Absence of Roel Degamo’s PNP Escorts’ Absence during Slay

House Speaker Romualdez Wants Investigation on Absence of Some PNP Escorts of Gov. Roel Degamo

ROMUALDEZ – The House Speaker wants the absence of some of the Philippine National Police (PNP) escorts of Governor Roel Degamo during the slay investigated.

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo faced his untimely death last March 4 when men wearing pixelated uniform barged in their house in Pamplona. His ally and several civilians also died because of the attack.

Gov. Degamo was rushed to the hospital but he passed away while he was being treated. His wife, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, called for justice over his death. She stressed that the Governor was working on a Saturday when the attack took place at their compound.

The national government assured the family and constituents of Gov. Degamo as well as the families of the other victims of the attack that justice will be served over their death. Three (3) suspects who were arrested five (5) hours after the Governor’s death are currently in the custody of the authorities.

One of the suspects named Congressman Arnie Teves as the alleged mastermind in the killing of Gov. Degamo. The Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative is currently in the United States for his treatment. House Speaker Martin Romualdez advised him to go home and faced the allegations against him.

Based on a report on GMA News, House Speaker Romualdez also wants probe on the absence of some five (5) out of six (6) PNP escorts of Gov. Roel Degamo during his slay. He urged the Committee on Public Order and Safety to look into the “highly suspicious” disappearance of the security.

“It appears that the perpetrators were aware of the fact that Governor Degamo has practically no protection so they could easily accomplish their mission,” the House Speaker said.
