In recent years, reports have surfaced of fish being intentionally colored by bogus vendors to make them appear fresher than they actually are. This has become a growing concern for consumers who are worried about the safety and quality of the fish they buy.
The problem has been particularly prevalent in markets in developing countries where food safety regulations are not as strict as in other parts of the world. In some cases, unscrupulous vendors have been known to use toxic chemicals to color the fish, which can pose a serious health risk to consumers.
One of the main reasons why vendors color fish is to make them appear more appealing to buyers. Fish that have been on display for a while can start to look less fresh, and coloring them can make them appear as if they were just caught.
Recently, in the market in Davao, it is said that fish are being colored to make them look fresh. A lady customer in Bangkerohan Public Market in Davao City was disappointed after buying fish that seemed to have been deliberately colored.
A Facebook user named Jes Marie noticed that the fish seemed to have been intentionally colored to make them look fresh again because when she washed it, the color of the fish disappeared and became pale again.
According to Jes, she is just one of many victims of this scheme. She called on buyers to carefully inspect what they are buying.
