Barangay Kagawad Died After Shot by AWOL Soldier to Death in Manila
A barangay council (Kagawad) was declared dead on the spot after being shot by an AWOL soldier in Malate, Manila.
The suspect, an AWOL (absent without leave) soldier, became enraged with a barangay councilor and shot him inside a Malate, Manila, beerhouse. According to a GMA News report, a CCTV camera caught the crime that occurred at 10:00 a.m. earlier.
Rolly Ibaez Algarme was recognized as the culprit, while Jesus Carmona, 47 Barangay member, and resident of Parola, Tondo, Manila, was identified as the victim. The man was caught on Surveillance with a gun hidden behind his back.
He shot the victim on the table moments later. Carmona stood and attempted to flee, but Algarme shot him again, knocking him to the ground. According to Manila Police District – Ermita Lieutenant Colonel Leandro Guttierez, three bullets struck the kagawad, one in hand, one in the thigh, and one in the back.
A stray gunshot struck the woman next to Carmona. The suspect fled in a car but was apprehended by police after becoming delayed in traffic. Algarme had no choice but to surrender. The suspect, who lives in Mandaluyong City, is claimed to be a former Filipino Army soldier.
According to the police, Algarme became upset when the victim stated that the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau had clamped his car in front of the beerhouse and there was nothing he could do. According to Guttierez, Kagawad told him where to park, but his car was already clamped when he got out.
