The Aquino family has this message for Filipinos who continue to fight for the restoration of democracy in the country
In celebration of the 37th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, the Aquino Family released this statement.
Cory and Ninoy Aquino are among the popular personalities during the Marcos regime. The former Senator was a known critic of former President Ferdinand Marcos. After Marcos was ousted through the “bloodless revolution,” Cory assumed the presidency.
On February 25, Filipinos who fought and believe in the spirit of the people power in 1986 are celebrating the 37th anniversary of the revolution.
In line with this, the Aquino family released a statement expressing appreciation to Filipinos who “fought to end the Marcos dictatorship,” based on the report from The Philippine Star.
The statement added that through the EDSA People Power Revolution, Filipinos showed the world that it is possible that people can reclaim freedom with courage and unity. For the Aquinos, the spirit of EDSA is still alive up to this day and this is the same spirit that guards and protects democracy.
“Nakikiisa tayo sa lahat ng mga tumututol sa pagbalik ng diktadurya at sa pagrerebisa sa ating nagkakaisang alaala. Nakikiisa tayo sa lahat ng kumikilos para isabuhay ang diwa ng EDSA. Walang duda: buhay ang diwa ng EDSA,” the Aquino family stated.
Meanwhile, in line with this celebration, singer-songwriter Jim Paredes, along with other artists, released a new version of the song Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo. The said song has become the EDSA people power revolution theme song. Jim was among the artists who joined the revolution in 1986.
