Fans of Maria Clara at Ibarra Vent Dismay At the Torre de Manila Building

The avid fans of GMA’s fantaserye Maria Clara at Ibarra vented their disappointment at the Torre de Manila building.

In its final week, millions of netizens worldwide watched GMA’s top-rated drama Maria Clara at Ibarra. The plot was inspired by the novel Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo by national hero Jose Rizal.

It starred Barbie Forteza as Sila Infantes, a modern nursing student who is transported into the world of Rizal’s two writings. In one of the episodes of the famed show, Klay can be seen crying in front of the Rizal monument.

While the scene was poignant, several netizens couldn’t help but notice the controversial ‘Torre de Manila’ edifice in the background. After viewing the distraction in the scenario, some netizens on Twitter expressed their disappointment on social media.

It also resurrected the petition to demolish the aforementioned structure, believing that it was not supposed to be there. A netizen also claimed that the government had the authority to demolish the aforementioned structure.

Meanwhile, one fan attempted to remove the structure from the background. It should be noted that even Rizal’s family wanted the building razed because it was an eyesore for visitors to Luneta Park.

Torre de Manila development began in 2012 and was temporarily halted due to a petition to stop its construction. In 2017, the court decided in favor of Torre de Manila’s developer, and attempts to halt construction were unsuccessful.
