Singer Ice Seguerra shared a story about how he learned the iconic Visayan songs Usahay and Matud Nila.

On October 15, 2022, Ice held his Becoming Ice concert to commemorate his 35 years in the entertainment industry. In that concert, he was joined by prominent people in the showbiz and music scene who became big parts of his career throughout the years since he started as Aiza Seguerra.

That concert was a success and so another one will be held in Cebu City on February 8. Based on the article in PEP, the singer will be performing two Visayan songs. He shared that he first learned these songs when he was a young kid.

Ice Seguerra said that Usahay and Matud Nila were among the first songs he learned when he was young. It is because his mother told her to learn these songs for a show that he did years ago in Cebu.

“Naaalala ko, nung mga six years old ako, nag-show kami sa Cebu. Sabi ng mama ko, dapat daw aralin ko yung mga kanta na yun kasi mas maa-appreciate daw yun ng audience sa Cebu,” the singer said.

He quipped that his tongue twisted because of the Cebuano words as his parents were pure Tagalog. On the other hand, when he heard the melodies of the songs, it was easy for him to fall in love with them.

Since he does not speak Cebuano, he asked his Visayan friend about the song’s meaning. After understanding the lyrics, Ice became more in love with the said iconic Visayan songs.

“Kaya sa Becoming Ice in Cebu sa Feb 18, I will sing the 2 Visayan songs that have been immortalized in the hearts of people,” the singer said.
