Maria Luisa Varela Reacts To Negative Issue About Miss Planet International 2023
MISS PLANET INTERNATIONAL 2023 – Newly crowned Miss Planet International Maria Luisa Varela reacted to the negative issue about the pageant.
On January 29, Filipino beauty queen and entrepreneur Maria Luisa Varela won the Miss Planet International 2023 crown in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Bb. Pilipinas’ 1st runner-up Herlene Nicole “Hipon Girl” Budol was slated to compete in the said pageant.
In an exclusive interview with PUSH, Varela shared her joy of achieving the crown for the Philippines. She said he still can’t believe that he won the crown for the country. “When I was crowned for the Miss Planet International 2023, of course I am very happy. Parang feeling ko na feel ko talaga lahat ng paghihintay ko, lahat ng hirap ko before this pageant… and so when I got crowned, I’m so happy. After all, nagbunga na lahat ng pangarap ko, lahat ng preparations ko,” she said.
Even before her victory in MPI, Maria Luisa Varela who hails from Navotas City has competed in various pageants. When he was 16 years old, she participated in the pageant for the first time and counting. She has participated in 15 pageants.
And even though it can be said that the newly crowned MPI participated in various pageants early on, she still does not consider herself a pageant veteran.

It is also inevitable that Varela’s win at the pageant will be marred by negative comments. It can be recalled that Budol was the first representative of MPI who decided to withdraw from the competition after her allegedly bad experience with the pageant organizers.
For Varela, she said she remained positive amid the controversy that is currently being thrown at the Miss Planet Organization.
“Kasi hindi naman natin hawak ang desisyon ng lahat ng tao, lahat tayo may kani-kaniyang opinyon. Mayroong taong magugustuhan ‘yung performance mo, mayroon rin taong hindi magugustuhan ang performance mo. Kasi ako naman po ‘yung tao na I focus on positive thoughts lang. So doon aka nag-focus sa mga taong naniniwala at nagititwala sa akin. So doon naman po sa mga taong hindi, e nirerespeto ko po ‘yun and wala naman po akong masasabi na something na mali sa kanila. Kasi sila po ‘yun e, desisyon po nila ‘yun, opinyon po nila ‘yun. So for me, I focused on good things not on bad things,” she explained.
Varela also clarified that she is aware of Herlene’s experience at MPI, which is a reason for her to think carefully about her decision.
