Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Davao Occidental, February 2, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Davao Occidental today, Wednesday, February 2, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few days ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a different part of Davao Occidental. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.2.

The earthquake that struck Davao Occidental today, Wednesday, February 2, 2023, at 09:41 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Balut Island, municipality of Sarangani.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Davao Occidental was located at 04.48°North, 126.55°East – 163 km South 50° East of Balut Island with a depth of focus of 012 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. Based on the record released, no intensity as well as instrumental intensity were recorded of the said quake. The said quake is an aftershock of the January 18 quake that hit the province.
