Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake

Last Wednesday (February 1, 2023), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a magnitude 6.0 earthquake over the southern portion of the country. The powerful quake strikes Davao de Oro.

The magnitude 6.0 quake has been located 12 kilometers northeast of New Bataan with a depth of 27 kilometers. The tremor is tectonic in origin. The earthquake causes damage to several houses and establishments.

A Facebook user named Dinne Macaranas has shared the CCTV footage taken inside a store in Montevista, Davao de Oro. In the video, a powerful tremor shook the store and grocery items fell from the shelves.

In the video, a customer is having a transaction with the cashier when they felt a tremor. The three immediately went out of the store before a devastating quake shook the establishment.

Other residents get out of the building to avoid being injured by falling debris.
