PCG Catches 3 ‘Bangka’ of Palawan Pirates Stealing Fuel

PALAWAN PIRATES – The Philippine Coast Guard apprehended the three ‘bangka’ of Palawan pirates over fuel pilferage.

On January 28, 2023, PCG caught three boats with the names; Palawan Pirates 2022, Palawan Pirates 2023, and Palawan Patrick in Navotas Fish Port over stealing petroleum products (diesel).

According to the agency, the PH coast guard is roaming around the coastal area during patrol duty when the team noticed five passengers of M/V MIROLA 1 transferring diesel in three boats.

The group immediately inspected the vessels and confirmed the illegal activities. PCG discovered that about 20,000-30,000 liters of diesel have been transferred by M/V MIROLA 1 to three Palawan pirates.

“Agad na ininspeksyon ang mga sasakyang pandagat at nakumpirma ang pagsasagawa ng iligal na aktibidad (fuel pilferage). Humigit-kumulang 20,000 hanggang 30,000 litro ng diesel ang naisalin ng M/V MIROLA 1 sa tatlong Bangka,” PCG said.

The authorities also learned that the vessel has no documents. It was not the first that the three boats of Palawan pirates committed such acts, the culprits performed the same modus in Bataan and Batangas.

The suspects have been taken to Coast Guard Sub-Station Navotas for custody while the charges against them are being prepared.
