Cop Caught with Illegal Drugs Worth P6.9B to Face Dismissal from Service

Authorities ordered dismissal against the cop who was caught with P6.7 billion worth of illegal drugs last October.

The Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) has recommended that the police sergeant who was discovered with P6.7 billion in shabu in October be fired. Master Sgt Rodolfo Mayo Jr. was recognized as the officer.

Mayo is assigned to the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) Special Operations Unit in the National Capital Region, according to the article. According to IAS Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo, they submitted their recommendation to the PNP-Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM) on January 9th.

“It is now upon the discretion of the Chief PNP, whether he will uphold or reverse the decision. We respect that,” said Triambulo.

Mayo’s benefits will be terminated, and he will be unable to work for any government agency in the future, according to the official. According to PNP Chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr., he has not yet read the copy of the IAS suggestion.

“For as long as they (IAS) have the recommendation, the result of the investigation is already for my approval. We will still have to check if the recommended punishment is appropriate for the supposed offense he had committed,” Azurin said.
