Bride Uses “Sibuyas” for Wedding Bouquet Instead of Traditional Flowers

Bride Holds “Sibuyas” Bouquet Instead of Flowers during Wedding Pictorial

BRIDE – Amid the controversial prices of red onions in the Philippines, “sibuyas” played a role in a wedding when it replaced the role of flowers in the bride’s bouquet.

Filipinos in several areas in the Philippines now are dealing with high prices of “sibuyas” or red onions. The situation even sparked a lot of memes on social media when netizens gifted their loved ones onions instead of chocolates on special occassions like birthdays and anniversaries.

However, amid the countless memes and scenarios involving red onions, there is another surprising thing – sibuyas being used for the wedding bouquet instead of the traditional flowers. The bride holds a bouquet on her big day and it is usually made of flowers stringed together.

In the case of Lyka and Erwin, it is different as the bride held a bouquet of sibuyas. Here’s a photo of her posted by RR Production, their official photographer for their wedding.

Visibly, sibuyas was not only used for the bouquet of the bride as well as the wreathe held by her bride’s maids. The newly-wed had a photo with their bride’s maids and groom’s men where it could be seen that the ladies are holding a wreathe with red onions.

Currently, red onions are priced high in several areas in the Philippines. There was also a time a few months ago that former Senator Kiko Pangilinan compared the price of onion in Australia and in the Philippines.

Onions were also used in several “prank” instances. You can check out the story of a netizen who pranked her partner with a Ferrero Rocher packaging containing sibuyas instead of chocolates. Amid the high costs of red onions in several areas in the Philippines now, there are calls for penalty to those who will be caught hoarding onions.
