Actress-politician Aiko Melendez slammed a post stating that it was the “end of an era” after Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi failed to enter the Miss Universe Top 16.

For twelve years straight, the Philippines has reached the semifinal round in the most prestigious pageant in the world. In 2015, Pia Wurtzbach won the crown and in 2018, Catriona Gray repeated this.

Many Pinoy pageant fans were dismayed by the result that even in the Top 16, Celeste was not included as they believed, she did a good performance during the preliminary competitions.

After the pageant, many celebrities and former beauty queens rallied behind the Philippines bet. Aiko Melendez also shared her heartwarming message. “Una, gusto ko lang pong palakpakan ang ating kandidata, Celeste Cortesi, sa napakagandang performance na binigay nya representing our beautiful country in the 71st Miss Universe Beauty Pageant,” the actress-politician said in her Facebook post.

Aiko also said that Celeste represented the Philippines well and she deserves so much love from her countrymen. Then, the Quezon City Councilor slammed a news item from the Philippine Daily Inquirer with the caption “END OF AN ERA.”

For Aiko, this was uncalled for and she stressed that there was no need to kick a woman down. “Para kasing sinasabi na “malas” si Ms. Cortesi, at least that’s how it got to me,” the Kapuso star said. She stressed that if Celeste was not able to enter the semifinals, it does not mean harsh comments will be thrown at her.

“Let us show Ms. Cortesi the same love we showered her when she left for the competition and embrace her efforts representing, not just herself, but also our nation, in this heavy weight beauty competition. She did well and she deserves a good pat on the back,” she stressed.

Aiko Melendez reiterated that Celeste Cortesi did well and she should stand proud, and go home to the Philippines with her beautiful smile.
