Gatchalian Wants Hoarders of Sibuyas to Charge with Economic Sabotage
Senator Win Gatchalian ordered to charge those hoarders of sibuyas (onion) with economic sabotage amid the lack of supply.
The Senator requested that the Department of Agriculture (DA) organize a task force to pursue hoarders or businessmen who are hoarding onions throughout the country. Gatchalian made the remark as the market price of onions continued to rise due to a scarcity of supply.
“Sang-ayon ako ng gumawa ng task force…ang DA ang magle-lead dahil sila ang mga datos at pumasok na dito ang National Bureau of Investigation at sampahan ng kasong economic sabotage yung mga taong nagho-hoard,” Gatchalian said in the interview in DZBB.
According to the senator, the hoarders are committing economic sabotage. Gatchalian claimed that the DA is aware of the major businesspeople supplying onions to the country, making it simple to identify them.
“Identified naman natin kung sino ang nagbebenta ng sibuyas… kaya madaling malaman kung sino ang nagho-hoard at di nagbebenta sa merkado,” said the lawmaker.
Gatchalian also stressed some businessmen are still storing or hiding their onion products, raising the market price of onions. Based on the report, when anything is smuggled, the price falls because the smuggled products pull the price down. But it’s bad for the country since they don’t pay taxes, according to Gatchalian.
“Ang pag-aanalisa ko dito, may mga taong nagho-hoard or di bibineta ang yung kanilang imbentaryo kaya tumataas ang presyo, kaya dapat imbestigahan ng DA mabuti at makita kung sino ba ang mga nag-i-import,” he said.
“Definitely my shortage, kaya tumaas ang presyo ng sibuyas… pero kahit na may suplay na pumapasok at di bumababa ang presyo, ang aking pag-aanalisa dito ay mayroong mga taong taong hindi nilalabas ang imbentaryo kaya tumataas ang presyo ng sibuyas,” the senator added.
