Plaza was shot at close range by gunmen riding in tandem on a motorcycle outside her leased house in Green Meadows Subdivision, Barangay Santo Nio, Tugbok District, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Investigators are gathering CCTV footage in the hopes of identifying the gunmen.

Lupaz stated that two people of interest are already being investigated. According to Police Major Eudisan Gultiano, spokeswoman for the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG), persons of interest may be linked to Plaza’s death.

PRO-Davao told the public that the inquiry would be ‘fair, objective, and unbiased.’ However, the police refused to release specifics about the names of the persons of interest because they have yet to ascertain if they are genuinely involved in the crime.

But Gultiano said robbery may have been the motive for the killing because it appears that the taking of her belongings was incidental, occurring only after she was shot at point-blank range. Based on the report, After being shot, the suspects reportedly take her bag.

“Base sa CCTV, ang unang ginawa ng mga suspek ay binaril siya kaagad. Ang pagkuha ng kanyang bag ay nagkataon lamang o naisip lang… Sa katunayan, gusto nila siyang barilin sa pangalawang pagkakataon ngunit ang baril ay naka-jam,” he said.

It is also plausible that the suspects were motivated by personal rage when they killed the victim. Lupaz also stated that the victim’s family authorized investigators to examine his iPad and mobile phone in order to collect additional evidence and discover the identity of the suspects.
