PAGASA Says 1-2 Storms Expected to Enter PAR in December

The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that up to two tropical cyclones are expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) in December.

On Thursday (December 1, 2022), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration released the latest weather update in the country. The shearline will affect the country’s weather condition.

PAGASA reported that the shear line would affect the eastern section of Luzon while the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will affect Mindanao.

The shear line will bring cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Batanes, Apayao, Cagayan, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, and Camarines Norte.

The ITCZ will bring similar weather conditions over Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, and Zamboanga del Norte.

The ITCZ / Localized Thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy weather condition with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

PAGASA said that up to two tropical cyclones are expected to enter PAR this month. “Asahan po natin ang isa or dalawang bagyo na pumasok ng ating area of responsibility,” weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

The tropical cyclones will be named Rosal and Samuel once they enter the country. Estreja explained that there is a higher chance that storms in December will make landfall.

“Tuwing December po, mas mataas ang tiyansa na tumama sa kalupaan at hindi rin natin dinidiscount na possible na maging malalakas ito — nasa typhoons at super typhoon categories,” Estrajera added.
