Bince Operiano at Airport for 2 Days Before Becoming Young Chess Master

The 9-year-old Chess prodigy Bince Rafael Operiano allegedly sleeps at the airport for 2 days before winning a gold medal in Thailand.

Bince had to endure hardships with his father, who went to his competition with him, before winning the title of Young Chess Master. The 6th Eastern Asia Youth Chess Championship, which was held in Bangkok, Thailand, was difficult for the “Next Chess Grandmaster” of the Philippines to win.

A gold medal and a trophy were won by the Oas, Albay chess prodigy in the Under 10 Boys Division of this international competition. Although the entire nation rejoiced over Bince’s victory, his success story was not without its challenges.

According to a Facebook post by Albay Third District Representative Fernando Cabredo, the father and son really stayed two nights at the airport with father Ben Operiano while they awaited the complimentary ticket from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). Typically, this is due to the agency’s limited financial resources for high-profile talent like Bince.

The nine-year-old national stoner traveled to Thailand for the first time for the same reason, and Bince lost the initial round of matches while he awaited his father’s support and presence, according to his mother Rosemary. Before departing for Thailand in October, Bince’s family had previously made an appeal for financial assistance.

“Let’s be part of the preparation and not just during its glory. I was sad reading that the father was at the airport for 2 days waiting for the fare to Bangkok, whether it’s true or not, [which] makes me sad. The coach should be different. Salute to the coach and to the father!” it added that Ben’s father himself confirmed the information.

“Totoo po yan, 2 nights si Bince sa airport ako 3 nights po,” replied the father.

The National Chess Federation of the Philippines will present Bince as a National Master when he is ten years old (NCFP). Currently enrolled at San Isidro Elementary School in Oas, Albay, is the chess prodigy. The son has given all of himself to his chess playing, just like his father.

Bince continues to practice diligently right now, fitting it in after his classes. Additionally, every Saturday and Sunday he continues to play chess all day. Every time the father plays chess, the child enjoys himself and is content.

  1. Sad to hear another failure by our sports officials in supporting our athletes. We already lost Wesley So. We almost lost Obiena. So, where is the money alloted for our athletes going? It now seems normal in the Philippines for politicians and officials of government organizations to pocket our tax money and use for “confidential” purposes.

  2. The country’s newest wunderkind deserves all the support from both government and private entities to ensure his exceptional chess talent is nurtured for future international conquest.
    Congratulations, Bince Operiano!
